    Destijds leek het erop dat de hobbit nog tot 12 duizend jaar geleden had geleefd, vlak voor het tijdperk van de landbouw. Dat hadden de archeologen verkeerd, geven ze nu toe in Nature: ergens rond de 50 duizend jaar geleden moet de laatste hobbit zijn gestorven.
