   Quote Boeroeng: “Ik snap er ook niks van dat de uitvinder van bluetooth wel op de nationale TV komt en een andere Nederlander als Vic Hayes niet. Zover ik lees is bluetooth allang overvleugeld door wifi.”

   Zou het aan de ‘onhollandse’ naam liggen of aan de bekende indische bescheidenheid. Mogelijk dat Bluetooth J. Haartsen zelf of door z’n omgeving in het zonnetje is gezet. ????

   De uitvinder van Bluetooth Jaap Haartsen wordt opgenomen in National Inventors Hall of Fame in de Verenigde Staten.

   Dat meldt de Volkskrant zaterdag.

   Hier zijn ook grote uitvinders als Thomas Edison, de gebroeders Wright en Henry Ford te vinden.

   Haartsens uitvinding wordt opgenomen, omdat het volgens de Amerikanen een reusachtige invloed op onze samenleving heeft gehad. De 52-jarige Haartsen verdiende echter geen cent aan de uitvinding.

   De uitvinder ontwikkelde Bluetooth in 1994 in Zweden, terwijl hij in dienst was van elektronicaconcern Ericsson. Het patent werd wel op zijn naam geschreven.

   Bluetooth wordt inmiddels wereldwijd toegepast in drie miljard apparaten.

   Father of Wi-Fi
   His quiet, methodical leadership brought factions together and the Wi-Fi standard was adopted in September 1999.

   Vic Hayes, sometimes called the “Father of Wi-Fi,” hardly fits the conventional image of a “legend.” Soft-spoken on the phone, self-effacing, he’s less a technological visionary and more of a problem solver.

   He’s not even a big Wi-Fi user himself. He just added a Wi-Fi adapter to an older desktop computer in his home, to connect it to his broadband router. His two laptops also use Wi-Fi and the four devices constitute his home network. His only mobile device: a basic cell phone, without Wi-Fi. “And I use it only for emergencies,” he says.

   We caught up with Hayes at his university office, where in between international conferences and authoring (most recently co-authoring “The Innovation Journey of Wi-Fi: The Road To Global Success”), he’s helping to launch a new research project that will analyze Wi-Fi deployments in rural areas and developing economies to identify the ingredients of successful wireless broadband projects.
