“Children of Sri Kandi”is the first Indonesian documentary film about queer, lesbian, and transgender communities in Indonesia. Started as a film workshop of several different makers with a goal of producing their own films, they slowly connected with each other and decided to form a collective. This documentary includes many personal portraits of the filmmakers and their lives in Indonesia. Together, they review and discuss sexuality in political and religious contexts in Indonesia and try to spread awareness.
Van 4 tot en met 8 april vindt in Amsterdam, in de Balie op het Leidseplein, het CinemAsia Film Festival plaats. CinemAsia is het een na grootste festival voor de populaire Aziatische cinema in Europa. Dit jaar beleven wij onze 5e editie met een interessante programmering met populaire kaskrakers, onafhankelijke documentaires en een uitgebreide focus op diaspora films. Zoals elke editie hebben we een groot aantal nieuwe films uit Indonesië, waaronder Arisan!2, het vervolg van de bekende filmmaakster Nia Dinata. Zij zal samen met actrice Cut Mini ook aanwezig zijn op het festival.
